Over one thousand three hundred students on Tuesday August 30, 2022 graduated from the United Methodist University after several years of studies.
The ceremony held at the UMU’s future campus in Doemah Town, Lower Margibi County saw the graduating class , 61% females and 39% males who walked away with deserving degrees from various disciplines.
Serving as the 18th commencement speaker was President George Weah who firstly thank the School’s leadership for the board step to take its future and new campus from Monrovia to Doemah Town in Margibi County.
“Though it is a work in progress but I encourage you to be persistence in order to achieve your goals”, he admonished the UMU’s administration.
According to him as feminist in chief he is so glad and impressed to see more females about 61% graduating than 31% males respectively.
He at the same time urged the United Methodist Church in Liberia to continue to compliment government’s education effort under the Pro Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD) in order to help educate the promising future leaders of the Country.
“I love Education because it is the best tool and that is while I rendered financial assistance to thousands of people over the period”, he disclosed .
Wanita Weah, my little sister today is a success story as one of your graduates narrating that four years ago after our mother died, I encourage her to go back to school and today, she is graduating with honors”, he added.
Parents try to emulate my example and encourage your children to go to school in order to become better future leaders for tomorrow, he noted.
Speaking to the graduating class under the calls name; Light Can Not Be Hidden, President Weah call on the graduates to ensure that their outputs will be exceptional , “be yourselves and know your calling”, he warned them.
The Liberian leader Challenged the Administration to keep an eye on the graduates and urged them to consider their outputs as partners to the rebuilding process of the Country.
“Your Education along he pointed out will not solve your problems, but you need to be humble, respectful and you will eventually excel in life”, he said.
Moreover , he advice the graduates to be ready and be prepared for the tasks ahead as they go into the global village.
Meanwhile, the Liberian leader as part of putting smiles on the faces of the graduates give them through the school’s administration over 400 , 000USD as they go wide in celebration as a sign of gratitude to him for his gesture towards them.
It is now becoming a common practice where the President is normally seen identifying with graduates after the occasion as the UMU’s scenario was of no surprise as members of the 18th graduation class of the United Methodist University were poised and jump Into jubilation after the disclosure was made not the usual style by him but rather the President of the UMU Rev. Yar Donald Gonway Gono.
