A renowned Liberian female activist Leymah R. Gbowee says in the interest of peace, development, and the future of Liberia, the former ruling Unity Party (UP) should kindly allow former Vice President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to retire from politics and focus on his health, stressing that he deserves to spend his golden years interacting with his grandkids enjoying his family time.
“The writing are all on the wall, my uncle Joe is in no good position to contest! uncle Joe, please be well – God’s blessings upon you”, she stated on her official Facebook page on Monday evening, January 16, 2023.
The 2011 Nobel Peace Prize Winner at the same time underscored that the Unity Party consider partnership with other political parties and form merger that will provide a viable political option for the Liberian people, stating that Liberia’s political future, and interest lie and rest squarely in the hands of UP, adding that “It is high time we put egos aside and put Liberia and her interest first.”
Last week tense exchanges ensued between the opposition Unity Party of former Vice President Amb. Joseph Nyumah Boakai and the Coalition for Democratic Change led government of President George M. Weah.on the health status of the former VP, who is said to have checked into a local hospital last week and discharged over the weekend.
The exchanges were in regard to the precautionary medical observation of Unity Party Standard Bearer Amb. Joseph Nyumah Boakai at the ELWA hospital.
On Friday, January 13, 2023, the former Vice President was discharged from the ELWA after almost three days of precautionary medical observation.
At the same time, on the same Friday, January 13, 2023, the Government of Liberia in a press statement expressed concern following reports of the ill health of former Vice President Joseph N. Boakai.
According to the government in their statement under the signature of Information Minister Ledgerhood J. Rennie said that as a statesman and political leader of a national party, his well-being is of utmost interest to the country.
” In view of the foregoing, the government has initiated contacts with family members of the former Vice President and offered to help in whatever way they deem necessary, while also wishing him a speedy recovery” the statement concluded.
But, the opposition Unity Party in a statement through the office of the National Secretary General issued January 13, 2023, termed as a diabolical lie, the statement from the Government of Liberia that suggests it has “initiated contacts with family members of the former Vice President and offered to help in whatever way they deem necessary…..”
The statement bearing the signature of Its national Secretary General Amos Tweh disclosed that it can be recalled that a certain fellow on the January 12, 2023 edition of Spoon Talk show that goes by the moniker Keff, reported that President George Weah called the former Vice President and Standard Bearer of the Unity Party and offered to fly him out of the country.
He said that the Unity Party and family members of Amb. Boakai refuted what they called the “criminally contrived propaganda” as the public severely descended on such childish, irresponsible and desperate attempt by the Presidency to play politics with a momentarily unwell condition of a statesman.
UP considers the government’s release as yet another callous attempt to save face and create the false impression that Amb. Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s health condition is anything very serious and, that he is unable to pay his medical bills.
Meanwhile, the UP hereby informed the public that the failed and visibly out-of-favor government of George Weah has made no official contact with any member of the JNB family, neither has any family member requested the government for assistance.
Unity Party assures the public that the man poised to rescue Liberia at the hand of the failed CDC government is in a positive state of health and mentally alert to hit the ground running when elected as President of the republic of Liberia in 2024.
The Unity Party warns the government and its surrogates to desist from the desperate and heartless effort to use the health condition of a statesman to redeem their lost image.
No doubt, the CDC government has failed to deliver on its promises; the man on a mission to transform Liberia, Amb. Joseph Nyuma Boakai is developing ideas and necessary strategies for the upliftment of Liberians from the shackles of poverty.
Unity Party calls on its partisans, supporters and Liberians everywhere to remain upbeat and unperturbed as the mission to elect JNB continues unabated.
