As Liberians both in and out of the country commemorate the Country’s 175th Flag Day, it has appeared to be a celebration in the mix of abject poverty, starvation as a result of alleged bad governance coupled with self-enrichments, mischievous disappearances of peaceful civilians and conflict of interest among others.
The above mentioned factors amongst others are said to be immensely contributing to the underdevelopment of the country with reference to the lack of road connectivity in rural Liberia to enable local farmers transport their produce to urban Liberia for marketing, limited opportunities for young people , Poor Health System, declining educational system that has validated former Sirleaf’s statement that says “LIBERIA’s EDUCATION SYSTEM IS A MESS”, as well as ‘Collapsed Economy’.
These different dynamics are said to have been greatly affecting businesses across the country and have drawn the attention of one of Bong County’s business tycoon, Mr. Varney Brown, the owner of the famous “New Day Business Center in Gbarnga.
When Bong TV microphone was placed before him early Tuesday morning August 23, 2022 at his business center in Gbarnga, Mr. Varney Brown expressed total frustration over the leaderships of both then president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and now President George M. Weah administrations for their alleged failure to address the social needs of the Liberian people.
Varney believes that the Sirleaf-Boakai administration didn’t have the voice of command that would deter citizens to uphold the rule of laws and executive order; something according to him is being heavily practiced by the current administration and has resulted into the factors mentioned above.
The Gbarnga business guru alleged that people in state power are not seeking the welfares of the struggling populace that’s why things are not stable in the country; thus stressing the need for leaders to focus on the interest of the governed rather than enriching themselves at the detriment of the country.
“The way this country is going, I don’t know”, he told Bong TV. “Our leaders cannot say things that work. That is why prices continue to go up everyday because citizens are not afraid of their leaders.
We need a military government in this country. That’s the only way things will change.
When a military leader talks power nobody can defy its order. I can really miss Charles Taylor regime because he had the voice of command” he was quoted as saying in a frustrated tone.
Mr. Varney Brown is the owner of the Famous New Day Business Center in Gbarnga that sells several building materials including; Zinc, cement,Tie , Steel riot among others. Varney wants an improved Liberia with equitable distributions of national cake.
