Bong County Fiscal Affairs Superintendent, Mr. Paul A. Sulonteh is currently undergoing police investigation over allegation of inciting aggrieved enumerators of the Liberia Institute for Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS) to protest against the government of Liberia for their just benefits.
The allegation according to police investigator was contained in a complaint filed by Superintendent Esther Nyamah Walker who is the direct vice juror of President Weah in Bong County.
It can be recalled early Tuesday morning, November 1, 2022, hundreds of aggrieved selected enumerators of LISGIS converged at the Gbarnga Administrative Building protesting in demand of their just benefits, threating to set ablaze the government facility while others stormed the famous Jor-bride in Gbarnga, blocking the Ganta to Monrovia route, preventing the passage of both commercial and private drivers; as well as Cyclists; thereby impeding the movement of pedestrians.
“LISGIS told us to apply as Enumerators and we did; some of us were shortlisted for their training. We sat for the training for, feeding ourselves and transporting ourselves as. They told us to pre-finance, and they would reimburse after all. Now that we have completed the training, they don’t want to pay our monies. We will not leave from here until we get our monies “they labeled reason of their protest.
Our reporter who visited the scene witnessed the protestors attempting to also set ablaze Bong County’s police commander Fasu V.Sherrif, a situation that led to the intervention of riot police firing tear gas as part of efforts to disburse the aggrieved LISGIS enumerators and the large crowd both from the building and the Jor-bridge.
The situation brought a total stand-off in the city of Gbarnga for about 20mins.
While in the struggle of calming down the protest action, Superintendent Esther Walker hurriedly commuted to headquarters of the Liberia National Police in Gbarnga to file a complaint, alleging Mr. Paul A. Sulonteh as the mastermind behind the protest and inciting aggrieved enumerators to stage the protest against the government.
Following her complaint, the LNP investigative team immediately issued Mr. Sulonteh’s arrest to answer to inquiries in relationship to the allegation against him, but he denied any connection with LISGIS neither the protestors terming Sup. Walker’s complaint as unfunded, baseless, and reprehensive.
“I don’t have any connection with LISGIS neither do I have any member of family, relatives and friends taking part in the enumeration exercise” the fiscal Sup. Spoke in a disappointing tone.
He is still facing police probe as a search for witnesses mentioned by Sup. Walker has been launched by police investigators.
LISGIS as government agency is charged with the full responsibility to conduct national Housing and Population census after every ten years as provide in the 1986 constitution, so as to know the total population of Liberia.
But this year’s census is seemed to be marked by fraud.
The LISGIS’s saga has now appeared to be a Sup. Walker and Paul Sulonteh‘s matter in Bong County.
Investigation continues
