Ahead of the 2023 presidential and legislative elections in Liberia, former Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas (ULAA) Board Chair and United Bong County Associations in the Americas (UBCAA) former president David Flomo have announced his candidacy for Bong County electoral district #3.
Mr. David Flomo made the pronouncement on Thursday, November 17, 2022, in a Super Bongese Radio interview in Gbarnga, Bong County from the United States of America.
According to Mr. Flomo, Bong County District #3 is very strategic and as such he wants to represent the district to make it quieter and provide leadership not just for the district alone, but the county and country at large.
“I want district #3 to become one of the quiet districts under my watch. One of the districts that will be more respectful to the rest of the counties; a district that will provide leadership; a district that will respect other members of the caucus; a district that will bring about meaningful developments that will help the citizens and residents.”
The Bong County electoral district #3 disclosed that when elected by his people in 2023, he will only receive a dollar monthly from his salary and the rest will go towards the district`s empowerment and development programs.
“I am not going to the process to seek employment or to enrich myself or my family. God has been grateful to me. My retirement benefits in the United States of America can take care of my family and I. I will definitely not need anything from the people of Bong County electoral district #3, but to give to the district” Mr. Flomo added.
He said his plan when elected by the people of Bong County electoral district #3 will be to construct the district`s administrative headquarters where residents of the district will meet to discuss issues concerning the growth and development of the district.
Mr. Flomo added that as part of his development plans, the district will have its own health center where the people of the district will have the opportunity to seek primary medical care.
“We will also work with the police to ensure that we have our own district #3 unit, but directly under the supervision of the police. We will also establish the Bong County district #3 Farmers` Association so that the district`s residents can be economically empower”, He added.
He also named the establishment of the Bong County District #3 Education Assistance Program geared to galvanizing resources to award scholarships not from him as a lawmaker elect, but from the district`s Education Assistance Foundation that will provide the opportunities for students in the district.
“This is not going to be about the representative in the district, but the people themselves will have more roles to play. The people will be part of the process and they will feel themselves being a part of the process. This is all about opportunities. The same opportunity I had since 1967, it is the same kind of opportunity I intend for other young people in the district to take advantage of”.
According to the former ULAA Board Chair and UBCAA President, Bong County district #3 is currently noisy under the watch of its current lawmaker Hon. J. Malvin Cole.
He alleged that the Representative Cole who currently represents the people of Bong County electoral district #3 is always in constant confrontation with other leaderships in the county, something he termed as “very frustrating and unfortunate”.
“We want to make sure to provide a different leadership that will kind the district and work with other leaderships for the good of the district and the county at large” Mr. Flomo asserted.
