Chinese Embassy Hand Over 6,000 Sanitary Pads to Jewel Starfish

The People’s Republic of China through its Embassy accredited in Monrovia over the weekend donated and handed over 6, 000 sanitary pads to the Jewel Starfish Foundation in order to help mitigate the challenges that school going kids are faced with.

The donation ceremony was held in the conference room of the Chines Embassy and the female sanitary items were officially turnover to the Jewel Star Fish Foundation through the Chinese Ambassador to Liberia H. E Ren Yisheng.

Mr. Ren on behalf of the Embassy, handed over the 6,000 pads of female sanitary items to Dr. Jewel Howard-Taylor, Vice President of Liberia, Founder of the Foundation.

The program was graced and witnessed by the Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy Li Jiang and the Vice President’s Deputy Chief of Staff Mr. Charley and other beneficiaries of the Jewel Starfish Foundation and several media institutions.

Remarking during the ceremony, Chinese Amb. Ren commended the work done by Vice President Howard-Taylor to promote and protect the vulnerable groups including women, girl child and persons with disabilities. 

He reiterates that China and Liberia are good friends and partners, and the embassy, adding that they have donated these items to support the Liberian government and the relevant institutions to better promote the development of Liberia’s women’s cause and enhance the friendship between the two countries and the pragmatic cooperation between China-Africa and China-Liberia. 

Mr. Ren also introduced the great achievements China has made in economic and social development and the forthcoming 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

For her part, Vice President Taylor upon receiving the items, expressed gratitude and congratulated China on their 73rd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and wished the 20th National Congress of the CPC a great success. 

She commended the great economic development China has made, thanked China’s contribution to Liberia’s peace building and development, and expected that the friendly and pragmatic ecnomic and trade cooperation between Liberia and China will be brought to a higher level. 

Vice President Taylor further thanked the Chinese Embassy for the donation of female sanitary items to the Jewel Star Fish Foundation and hoped to further strengthen the friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two sides.

Also on September 27, 2022, Chinese Ambassador to Liberia H.E. Ren Yisheng also handed over 6,000 pads of female sanitary items to the Clar Hope Foundation which was founded by the First Lady of Liberia H.E. Clar Marie Weah through her Chief of Staff Gaelle Mediem.
