IEP Trains University Students On The Protection Of Environment

The Institute for Environmental Protection (IEP) has Embarked on training of one hundred students from several universities, to include, University of Liberia (UL), United Methodist University (UMU), and African Methodist Episcopal University (AMEU).

The IEP is a non-governmental organization that is cooperating with other institutions to accelerate the Sustainable Development Goal ( SDG)

Speaking recently to journalists in Monrovia, the Executive Director for Institute of Environmental Protection, Kansualism Berk Kansuah said they are training the students in other to have complete knowledge about how to protect the environment and “after “which they will be used to carry on massive awareness in communities and the rural parts of Liberia to educate people about what environment possess tohuman life if it is not protected.

According to him, one of the things that is destroying the environment is, many individuals are not knowledgeable about how to protect the environment.

Kansuah said there are enormous issues that are affecting the environment, as he talked about feces all around the communities, in the river, in the street, sea, drainage and deforestation which he said has ecological effects of human lives.

People cutting down trees for fire coal is destroying the environment, because the forest is the major source of energy that store carbon dioxide  and give out oxygen for human usage. He added that too much cutting down of threes create excessive present of carbon in the atmosphere which harm the environment.

Besides, the IEP boss intoned that land degradation is one of the factors that also possess harm to the environment and also building in the swamp are all not cardinal as it creates dangerous occurrence including earthquake among other diester.

At the same time, the vice president for Bong County University Graduates Association (BUGA) James Kpangbia told the media that the  building of homes in the swamp and the degradation of the land is hugely destroying the ecosystem while goods  services are affected.

He said, to stop the cutting down of threes, is time that we as a country invest in new technology, that is cooking gas that is less expensive and environmental friendly then the cutting down the threes for fire coal which is harmful  to human health.

According to him, the cutting down of threes are driving the bush animals alway to other countries because areas for them to live are all getting destroy daily.

He however encouraged those hundred students to take the training very serious because society is depending on them to safeguard the environment from getting destroy.

The Vice President stressed that if action is not taking about the issue of the destruction of the environment, Liberia will certainly collapse in the future to come.

He mentioned that Environment Protection Agency (EPA) is doing well but they have to do more in other to save guide the environment from destruction.
