Dozens of LFA Match Commissioners have gathered in Caresburg Thursday, 4 August for a two-day workshop to enhance their performance ahead of the new 2022/23 National Leagues season which is just under three weeks away.
The National League starts on National Flag Day, 24 August with two Super Cup matches in both men and women categories as the LFA refreshes 32 match commissioners for an effective 2022/23 season.
In a welcome remark, 1st Vice President Sekou Konneh (Prof) encouraged participants to use the workshop as a continuous learning process likening the process to a humorous story of one of his university lecturers.
The LFA Commissioner General, Cllr. Sombo Izetta Wesley summarized the objectives of the workshop cautioning every commissioner that there will be a classification of Match commissioners based upon performance in the 2022/23 season.
Commissioner General Wesley was cleared about match commissioner official dress code (royal blue coat, white or pale blue shirt with red necklace).
There were 404 league matches in all divisions (1st, 2nd, Women Upper, and Lower leagues) last season in the LFA ORANGE National League with 308 assignments, but only 107 were attended of which only 93 match commissioners reported, a statistics that didn’t impress the Competition Department.
LFA President Mustapha Raji was grateful for the continuous support of the commissioners in a declaration-of-workshop-open statement, but cautioned them that only match commissioners who are computer literate will play in the new season at the top levels (1st, 2nd, Women’s Upper and Lower Divisions).
‘’I’ll ask the Commissioner General [Cllr Wesley] to categorize the match commissioners after this workshop and those who can’t operate a computer, will not play at the top levels’’, President Raji averred.
Commissioner General Izetta Wesley, Secretary General Isaac T.Z. Montgomery, Lone Star Administrative Manager Sebastian Collins, and Competition Manager Joel Freeman are facilitating the two-day event at the George Weah Technical Center.
