In continuation of his humanitarian gesture towards the inmates at the Monrovia Central Prison (MCP), renowned Indian businessman and philanthropist, Mr. Upjit Singh Sachdeva (Mr. Jeety) on Sunday, January 29, 2023, served cooked meals to 1, 240 inmates at the prison facility in Monrovia.
The meals served included rice with bean soup, soft drinks, water, as well as other items including chicken cube and that the serving of food to inmates on Sunday is part of the renowned businessman initiatives, he launched in 2017 to alleviate hunger among the vulnerable people in the society.
Sunday’s food distribution exercise was used to make a passionate plead to fellow businessmen across Liberia to serve humanity by taking on initiatives that will cater to vulnerable people and alleviate hunger in the society, saying nobody gets poor by giving to the under privileged or less fortunate people.
“As I normally said, it better to give than to receive and I urge every businessman around the country that we we should continue to serve humanity. If every businessman in the nook and cranny of Liberia can serve ten people, I can guarantee this nobody will sleep with hunger. So everybody has to take initiative for themselves and the society”, the Indian business tycoon remarked.
The former Honorary Consul General of India to Liberia further urged fellow businessmen not to give to get in return but give to inspire others to show concerns and lift their spirit and give them hope.


Mr. Jeety maintained that his decision to consistently provide feeding and basic needs to inmates, under privileged, less fortunate and neglected Liberian youths, children and elders is in keeping with his religious responsibility.
In concluding, he expressed his gratitude to the authorities of the Monrovia Central Prison for always supporting his initiatives as he looks forward to more cordial working relationship with the Bureau of Corrections and Rehabilitation

Mr Jeety on Christmas Day, December 25, 2022, invited the Vice President Mrs. Jewel Howard Taylor to join him distribute cooked meals to 1, 361 inmates at the prison facility in Monrovia as a way of uplifting their spirit and showing concerns during the festive season, and as well shared gifts to 1,000 Weala kids.
For his part, ,Mr Justin G Juah, Deputy Superintendent for Administration, lauded Mr. Upjit Singh Sachdeva for his continued support to the Bureau of Corrections and Rehabilitation particularly the Monrovia Central Prison (MCP)
The MCP Deputy Superintendent for Administration thanked Mr. Jeety for the many projects that he has undertaken in the prison facility, saying with that we can only say may God continue to bless you for all the help towards a better livelihood of the inmates
To feed over thousand inmates is a huge task, because of that you have committed lot of your resources to this facility aimed at buttressing the effort of the Liberian government, he added.
Juah disclosed that there are currently 1,240 inmates at the MCP including pretrial detainees and 235 convicts.
