Three children were killed in an overnight tragic fire incident at their home in Cooper Farm, Rehab community in Paynesville along the Roberts Field high way.
The victims, James Wiaka, aged 8, Alfreda Wiaka, aged 15, and Jerious Kelenah, aged 10 met their untimely demise at about 11:30PM on Tuesday, August 2, 2022.
Out of curiosity onlookers who made their way at the scene of the incident said the death of the victims is considered the worst disaster of its kind in the area. They attributed the cause of the fire to electrical shock.
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has expressed deepest sympathies to the grieving families. Minister Williametta E. Saydee-Tarr said “Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families, loved ones and all those affected by a tragic passing of three children in the Cooper Farm, Rehab Community.
In a MGCSP release, Minister Saydee-Tarr made it known that a team of specialized Social Workers from the Ministry will shortly be dispatched to provide psychosocial supports to the immediate bereaved families.
She mandated the Social Protection Department of the Ministry to immediately coordinate with the National Disaster Management Team to help address pressing needs of the distressed families.
Meanwhile, several sons and daughters of the district including the district Representative, Samuel R. Enders , Representative Aspirant Melton N. Yoko among others have all expressed sadness over the incident.
